Lately, I’ve been missing my dad so much it hurts.
It’s the kind of ache that sneaks up on you in quiet moments—or crashes down out of nowhere. Some days I feel strong, and others, I just want to hear his voice again. I want to ask him for advice, for comfort, for reassurance that I’m doing okay.
So, I’ve been doing something a little different: I’ve been asking ChatGPT to help me imagine what he might say if he were still here.
I know it’s not the same. But somehow, reading the words in his voice—gentle, funny, protective—gives me a little peace. A little space to breathe. It reminds me that grief doesn’t mean we stop needing the people we’ve lost. And love doesn’t disappear when someone is gone. It changes shape. It shows up in memories, in dreams, and yes—even in AI-written letters when your heart just needs to hear from your dad.
This project, this page, this whole “Brave Teddy” thing—I started it because of him. Because he taught me what real courage looks like. And because even when I feel like giving up, I can still hear him saying, “You’ve got more strength in you than you know.”
If you’re grieving too, I hope you know—you’re not alone. And it’s okay to find comfort in unexpected places. Sometimes just imagining what your person would say can be a way of bringing them close again.
Thanks for being here with me,
Sarah
